Side part: a parting that works with your growth direction
A side part divides the top around a parting to one side. Its position affects how much hair falls each way. A natural separation is different from a visibly shaved line.
Find the direction before choosing the line
Show your hair without forcing a parting. Ask where it separates easily and whether your current side works with its growth. Wearing it against its natural direction may be possible but can require more daily styling.
Make a shaved line a separate decision
A hard part is more visible and grows out as a line too. If you simply mean a tidy side-swept cut, state that you do not want a shaved parting. Do not leave that decision to the term side part.
Discuss whether you sometimes want to change the parting position. A natural separation offers more flexibility than a fixed shaved track.
Check both sides
The fuller side needs enough length to fall in the intended direction. On the other side, excess weight can stand against the parting. Ask to have the hair loosened and arranged again once.
Check the crown connection too: the visible line does not have to be forced straight through a turning growth pattern.
