Beards

Short boxed beard: compact form with defined corners

A short boxed beard has a compact outline around the jaw and chin, often with defined corners. It works best when you decide what remains within the line and which edges you want visible.

Decide on the outer jaw line

Use a side view to show how closely the beard should follow the jaw and how much volume remains below the chin. A compact outline does not mean every area must be exactly the same short length.

Discuss whether you want an angular or softer transition at the chin and sideburns. This shapes the result more than an average length alone.

Make cheek and neck lines deliberate

The cheek line and neckline frame the boxed form. Compare a natural line with a more defined one and explain what suits your density and preference.

Ask to have the boundaries indicated first. This prevents a line being placed higher or lower than you intended.

Connect the moustache to the rest

Discuss whether the moustache should match the beard length, remain a little fuller or be tidied separately at the lip. The mouth area is visible in everyday wear and deserves its own decision.

Afterwards, check the balance from front and side. Equal amounts of hair are not the only measure; the silhouette you want matters.
