Beard neckline: choosing a lower boundary that suits your shape

The neckline is the lower boundary of your beard and is mainly visible from the side. High, low, straight or curved creates a different silhouette. Treat it as its own choice instead of allowing it to be inferred from the rest of the trim.

View the line from the side

Lift your chin and look from the side while discussing the boundary. From the front, it is hard to see how a neckline frames length below the jaw. Indicate where you want a short shadow or smooth skin to begin.

A fuller beard often needs a different lower line from stubble. Explain how much mass you want to retain below the chin.

Choose curve and height deliberately

A softly curved line, quieter natural edge or more defined corner are all style choices. Ask your barber to indicate the proposed line before finishing it.

A low line is not automatically “more beard”, and a high line is not always tidier. Choose by the profile you enjoy with your length and jawline.

Make the line suit your maintenance

Explain whether you tidy the neck at home. Choose a boundary that you understand and are comfortable growing out, rather than a complicated shape that is crisp only on the day.

Afterwards, view it standing normally and with chin lifted. This lets you judge the line in the positions you see every day.
