Goatee: deciding the connection around mouth and chin

A goatee focuses on hair around the mouth and chin. Moustache width, its connection to the chin and whether cheeks stay clear together define the shape. Do not let one name fill in the whole design.

Choose which sections connect

Indicate whether the moustache should connect to the chin, whether you want space beside the mouth and how wide the central section may be. Small gaps or connections visibly change the appearance.

Check from front and side. A form that looks compact from the front can extend much further along the jaw from the side than intended.

Discuss cheeks and jaw separately

Explain whether cheeks and jaw may be fully smooth or retain a short shadow. A goatee does not automatically mean removing every hair outside the centre.

Ask to have the outer lines shown first, especially if you want to wear them differently for the first time.

Match length to the mouth area

Discuss whether moustache and chin should share one length or deliberately differ. At the moustache, also consider how much hair may fall over the lip in daily life.

At the end, smile, speak and look from the side. This shows whether the form stays comfortable and recognisable beyond a still mirror pose.
