Crew cut: short hair with shape at the front
A crew cut keeps the top short, usually retaining more length at the front than towards the crown. This leaves room for a defined shape above the forehead without maintaining a long top.
Choose how the front should sit
Do you want a little height, a quiet sideways direction or a short front that needs very little attention? Show this before deciding the length. Hair cut too short may no longer lie in the direction you want.
Ask whether the result depends on blow-drying or product. If you use neither each day, focus the conversation on how the short front sits naturally.
Account for the crown
With a short top, crown growth direction can become visible. Let your barber examine it before requesting the same short length everywhere. An area that turns upwards may need a different approach from the front.
Assess the top dry as well. Wet hair combed firmly flat can look longer and calmer than it does when it returns to its own direction.
Decide on the contrast with the sides
A crew cut does not require a skin fade. You can choose softly shortened sides or more obvious contrast. Explain the intended temple edge and how much shadow you want to retain.
As the front grows, it may hold its upright shape less easily. At the next appointment, explain whether restoring that length is the priority or whether you also want the whole side shortened.
